WHAT IS LA MAISON DES FEMMES?

It is a place of welcome and guidance for all women who are victims of violence, whatever its nature. Inaugurated in 2016 in Saint-Denis, it welcomes between 50 and 80 women a day. A unit of the Saint-Denis hospital center, it is a medical and social structure where caregivers and professionals from the worlds of police, justice and law, but also artists and athletes, work together to support patients on the path to healing and independence.

La Maison des femmes is organized into 3 units: the Family Planning unit, the Sexual Mutilation unit, and the Domestic, Intrafamily, Sexual and Gender-based Violence unit. It is also called upon for asylum applications, legal and police assistance, and access to social coverage, emergency housing and even employment.

WHAT ARE ITS MAIN MISSIONS?

La Maison des femmes cares for and supports women in difficulty or victims of violence, offering them a complete care pathway along with social and legal support. Patients also benefit from body-focused care and self-esteem workshops.

SOME FIGURES - 2019

• 4,000 women welcomed in 2019
• 13,300 consultations carried out (including 6,182 by the family planning unit, 4,618 by the domestic, intrafamily, sexual and gender-based violence unit, and 2,500 by the female genital mutilation unit)
• 80 reconstructive surgeries performed
• 116 women were able to use the legal help desk
• 33 women were able to consult a lawyer
• 5 psycho-corporeal self-esteem workshops offered
• 4 support groups facilitated
• 60 professionals in the multidisciplinary team
