What is a vegan cosmetic product?

A vegan cosmetic product is a product that contains no ingredients of animal origin.

What ingredients of animal origin are used in cosmetics?

Many ingredients of animal origin are frequently used in cosmetics.

Here is a non-exhaustive list of the animal-origin products you may find in your cosmetics:

- Beeswax - Cera alba

- Honey

- Propolis (bee)

- Squalane (shark)

- Donkey milk, goat milk - Lacta Asinus

- Keratin

- Carmine (a red dye extracted from an insect: the cochineal) - Carmésinus

These are easy to spot in the list of ingredients, often written under their Latin name.

What is a Cruelty Free product?

Products bearing the Cruelty Free label are products whose design and production involve no cruelty to animals.

These products, whether the ingredients or the finished products, are not tested on animals.

Is a Cruelty Free product necessarily Vegan?

While vegan products are Cruelty Free, it is important to note that Cruelty-Free products are not always vegan.

Indeed, some products such as the Donkey Milk Soap or the French Balm are Cruelty-Free but contain donkey milk or beeswax, which are ingredients of animal origin.

Is a Vegan product necessarily organic?

A Vegan product is not necessarily organic, and vice versa. Organic cosmetic products are made with ingredients from organic farming. They may therefore very well contain beeswax or honey, for example.

However, some products can be Vegan, Cruelty Free and organic all at once.

Almost all of our products are Vegan. Note that the non-Vegan ingredients we use are beeswax, donkey milk and propolis.
